2013 News Anchors

The news anchors have the job of scripting and presenting the introduction and closing to each episode of Wave TV. They also connect the stories in each episode. Its a responsible job where students need to work in a team with the camera crew, the director and each other to produce episodes.
  • Stories are scripted by the Anchors in the Wave TV wiki.
  • The Anchor script is printed out. Anchors & the news crew keep a copy.
  • Anchors have a week to practise and perfect the script in their own time and with Wave TV coaches, making any necessary script improvements.
  • The script is enlarged and used as a prompt during filming.
  • After filming, the Anchors edit and approve their segments.
First choice for being an anchor in 2013 was given to the year 8s as this will be their final year at Paremata School. 20 year 8s volunteered so we will need to make 10 episodes for everyone to get a turn. If you have changed your mind about anchoring please tell me ASAP. I'll send out permission slips for you and your caregivers to sign on Monday 26th November. Thank you all for volunteering. We couldn't make Wave TV without our wonderful anchors!
Thanks, Caroline.

WTV Crew 2013 News Update

Hi Everyone,
Thanks to all the people who came along as Wave TV Crew applicants for 2013. There were 52 of you so it was really hard selecting the crew of 15 - 20 students. I looked for Wave TV Crew using the following criteria. We need year 6 & 7 people who are:
  • Creative- can see things from several points of view
  • Able to work well in a team with any other students
  • Able to manage themselves independently
  • Problem solvers/ flexible thinkers
  • Able to manage their own school work as well as Wave TV
  • Happy to work on stories in their own time
  • Able to meet every Friday morning ready to report on the progress of their stories
  • Willing and able to learn new and challenging skills
  • Motivated, reliable and enthusiastic
  • Able to use a sense of humour- things don't always go the way we expect when making school TV!
After some discussion with Mrs Leggett, Miss Milne, Mrs Bassett and Mr Pesefea I've narrowed down a shortlist of people who we think can do most of these things. On Monday 26th I'll be sending home permission slips for crew and caregivers to sign. Remember- even if you are not Wave TV Crew you can come to me or the crew with a story and we will support you to put it in an episode of Wave TV.

Wave TV 2013

Hi Paremata School students,

We are getting ready for Wave TV 2013 by sorting out our 2013 core crew and news anchors. I would like the 2013 year 8 students to have first option of being news anchors. I know it's a busy year for year 8s with leadership responsibilities around the school so this is a great way of being part of Wave TV without having to commit to a whole year. If you were a news anchor in 2012 you're welcome to apply to do it again in 2013- you did such a great job!

I'm interested in developing the core Wave TV crew from year 6 & 7 students (with the blessing and support of Bryce, Sally, Mrs Leggett and the year 5-8 teachers). Below is the advertisement and job description for 2013 that is in W.O.T.. Your main job will be to develop news making skills you can use to produce episodes of Wave TV. You will work with the news anchors and anyone else who wants to present a news story for Wave TV. You will be the experts who ensure Wave TV is of a high standard and that we put out regular episodes. Two episodes a term would be great! I'm looking forward to meeting enthusiastic, motivated, interested people on Friday!

If you're not selected as core crew or you're not a year 6 or 7 in 2013 you can still create news stories for Wave TV. All you have to do is let me know you have a story idea and the Wave TV crew will work with you to write, film and edit it. If you are happy presenting to the camera you can. The WTV crew's job will be to support you so your story happens.

I'm looking forward to a fantastic Wave TV year!
Caroline

Would you like to be part of Wave TV 2013? If you will be in year 6 or year 7 in 2013 and are interested in being a core crew member of Wave TV please come to the old Dental Clinic/ Wave TV Studio next Friday at 9am. Crew members need to be committed, enthusiastic and happy to learn about all aspects of video making. These include finding and developing stories, camerawork, teamwork, self-managing, presenting to camera, journalism, patient enough to do video editing, and prepared to commit to weekly Wave TV meetings as well as being happy to work on stories in your own time. Wave TV is a fun and rewarding activity for students who can think outside the box and want to explore creative ways to tell Paremata School's stories. I'll choose 15-20 enthusiastic year 6 & 7 students as our core crew. Caroline

Year 7 & 8s- we will need you as news anchors in 2013. You get first option on this opportunity to script and present our news. The anchors are who hold our stories together. So if you have a flair for the dramatic and love being in front of the camera please come and see me after morning tea on Friday. Caroline.

Video tutorial

Here's a video shooting clip recommended by Melissa.Video Basics
After we watched the first tutorial and commented on it, I wondered whether we had learned everything we needed to about camera shots. It's never a good idea to just use one source of information. So here's  Camera Shots Tutorial 2 . We also have our second wallwisher here with comments responding to the tutorial.

Camerawork Tutorial 1

We're trying to improve our camera technique for Wave TV. We looked at a blog that had instructions for taking camera shots for video. Camera Shots Tutorial 1
